Artist Statement

I endeavor to show people the world the way they’ve never seen it before by using different perspectives and media. Most of my work is rooted in the abstract but with strong connection to the world we live in.

Biography

Born in Plymouth, England, Andrew moved to Canada at a young age. After a short stay in Montreal, his family moved to British Columbia where he spent most of the next 25 years primarily living in small towns in British Columbia. His mother, a teacher with an art background; and his father, an aerospace engineer, set Andrew on a path of technical artistry.
Andrew has worked in graphic design for large and small companies as well as in the commercial printing industry in a technical capacity. He started photographing in 1999, with an old Pentax 35mm, manufactured several years before he was born. Andrew progressed through different types of photography and eventually into digital while still employing technical tilt and shift techniques introduced over 100 years ago.
His extensive knowledge of colour management and printing helps him take extraordinary images and turn them into striking prints, while the technical and artistic nature of photography fit perfectly with the traits passed down from his parents.
In 2015 Andrew started working with film again; shooting medium and large format. In 2016 he installed a darkroom and in February 2017 his show of traditional Cyanotype images was well received.
In conjunction with photography, Andrew also works in more traditional art mediums like oil, encaustic and acrylic, researching and testing different techniques. He creates paint and mediums from scratch and has recently been working on combining his abstract photography with recycled foils and acrylic mixed media.
Andrew currently lives in Calgary, Alberta.
